It is so hard to adopt a nuanced perspective.
Something is either good, or it's evil; it's healthy, or it's ill; black, or white; wisdom, or foolishness; male, or female; young, or old; the high road, or the low road; light, or darkness. Our first instinct when introduced to something new is to label it with one end of a binary.
This is especially true for those of us who grew up in the Church. We were raised in Sunday School on the teachings of Jesus which were all based on a binary: the Kingdom of God and Ghenna (Hell), the wide gate and the narrow gate, sheep and goats, the saved and the lost.
It takes a lot of maturity to recognize and overcome this culturally conditioned mindset in favour of a more nuanced perspective.
